Taking a shower
Taking a shower
Taking a shower, starts with a brisk walk down the stairs in my boxers at 9.30. Towel thrown over my arm with shampoo and body wash in hand. Opening the door of the downstairs only to hear the familiar disappointing sound of the shower already being in use. In this case there really should be something that notifies you from all three floors of the flat which bathrooms are in use saving you from the walk of shame back up the stairs without having been showered.
Waiting in my bedroom for what seems to be the appropriate time I go back downstairs to shower, alas I have forgotten my shower gel, so I sprint back up, get it and return in a matter of seconds, maybe a cure for being forgetful would be a great help.
Then proceeding to shower, there is a certain art to the two doors, where if the shower door is left wide enough open it means you must turn sideways and squeeze in before getting into the room, simple changing the direction that one door opens would solve this simply, ergonomics weren't considered that thoroughly in this shower room, where design was once a science, clearly the scientists did not pass their GCSE physics. With a simple axis measurement this problem would be eradicated.
I turn the shower on, it scolds me for a few seconds before settling to a normal temperature. I open my shower gel and apply it with no issues however, I go to put it on the shelf which is too shallow for the bottle so it falls off, which happens every day without fail so I put it back on the floor. Reflecting on what just happened caused me to think of 100 devices that would solve this problem, for example, a shower shelf that you attach to yourself, or a utility belt that does such a job. Which all adheres to Shelley Carsons theories on why distracting oneself is essential when stuck on idea generation[2]. Reflecting further, all of my most creative ideas often come in the strangest places. mostly critical too, the shower seems to be the place where rational ideas and thoughts go out of the window, and your mind is free to think in a different way.
I continue and wash my hair, which causes more problems as the shower head is not adaptable to height or angle, meaning I have to duck down slightly to compensate for the fixed shower head at a strange angle.
Then I get out the shower, dry myself with my towel and head back up to my room where half the carpet gets stuck to my feet, not an ideal way to start the day.
